Architecture - Position of systems

The idea of developing this car had been under study for many years and particularly the development of specific elements like the power centraliser steering.

Citroën wanted to build luxury car that was still not existing in France since last war. But priority was given to the evolution of existing models and creation of mass product models.

After the agreement with Maserati and after Citroën took over Maserati in 1968, the studies were conducted to the ultimate point. Citroën built the car and Maserati built the engine.

Research where made in Citroën laboratories and in the research and development department. The hydraulic headlights aiming and swivelling headlight were additionally studied with the research and development department of Cibié company. Tests were made at La Ferté-Vidame (private Citroën test circuit) and on the French roads but with a car disguised as a simple Citroën DS for evident purposes.
